Reflecting on 2024

As we close out 2024, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for what our team, volunteers, and supporters have accomplished together. This year has been our most impactful yet, and I am proud to share the highlights.

Key Achievements

In 2024, S.T.O.P achieved the following milestones:

  • 500+ coral fragments planted across 5 restoration sites
  • 2,000+ students reached through the Underwater Classroom
  • 80+ marine species documented in our reef surveys
  • 150+ volunteers trained in coral restoration techniques
  • 3 new community partnerships established

Financial Transparency

Total operational funding for 2024 reached EUR 185,000, with 78% going directly to conservation programs and education. Our Adopt-a-Coral program generated EUR 42,000 from supporters in 28 countries, making it our fastest-growing revenue stream.

Challenges and Lessons

The year was not without challenges. A moderate bleaching event in March affected 15% of our nursery stock, reinforcing the urgency of our thermal resilience research. We also faced logistical difficulties expanding to new sites, which taught us valuable lessons about planning and resource allocation.

Every challenge is a lesson in disguise. The bleaching event accelerated our focus on heat-resistant species, ultimately making our restoration program stronger and more resilient.

Looking Ahead to 2025

In 2025, we plan to launch the interactive Reef Dashboard for coral adopters, expand our education program to La Digue, and begin our first international coral exchange program with partner organizations in Mauritius and Madagascar.
